Yesterday, Soundtracks saw one of the most striking movies it has ever watched – and we have seen alot more than a few. With some of the finest direction, editing and imagery and one of the most stunning soundtracks since…well…ever, we highly recommend you watch ‘Confessions’.
Give your eyes and ears a treat and watch this clip featuring – oh my goodness – an actual tune by Oxford heroes Radiohead.
Here we go. This is a personal favourite of ours. Taken from the greatly underrated stylistic leftfield movie Dear Wendy. Written by Lars Von Trier the soundtrack, supplied almost entirely by The Zombies, is a move of incredulous genius. Here we pick our favourite choice – “Time Of The Season”.
Well well well…let’s go all out awesome this week. The best part of a great song united with the last sequence of an utterly great movie. With it’s delicate and beautiful piano melody, sitting in stark contrast to the subject matter it resides over, we give you the end of Layla by Derek and The Dominos from the Scorsese masterpiece Goodfellas.
Fewer endings have moved so many men.
If you haven’t seen Goodfellas – you’re a fool. However, fool you may be, do not watch this clip. You’ll only ruin the taste of brilliance for yourself.

The Soundtrack of the Week this…well…week is – “Tiny Dancer” by everyones favourite bespectacled diva – Elton John.
Taken from Cameron Crowe’s “Why doesn’t it star John Cusack though” masterpiece – Almost Famous.
A truly brilliant moment for music and cinema. Not least because Kate Hudson isn’t unbearable. On a side note…anything that has Jason Lee in it is instantly resplendent.
Alright, so we were slow on the uptake hear. But only coz sooooooo many people wanted to watch this film with us we had to wait until we were altogether, an unlike organising a piss up in a brewery (which we succesfully do every Saturday) this proved to be alot more problematic to arrange.
However, we have now caught up with the rest of the planet – and we agree!
Drive is incredible. The soundtrack equals it in its splendidness…and this song moves us, coz you know, we’re real human beings. AND heroes no less.
After another predictable Oscar Ceremony, where there were literally NO surprises and not even a controversial host to speak of we can sit back and relax in the fact that whatever is said about British vs American movies, for all our faults and for all their risk taking, us Brits do do award ceremonies a darn sight better.
Such is the wonder of the BAFTAS.
However, the Oscars this year did throw up one timeless gem. One nugget of utter brilliance. A undoubtedly fully deserved victory. Albeit from a category of two.
Best Original Song.
The winner – The genius of ‘Man or Muppett’ by Bret Mckenzie. Taken from the masterful The Muppets. Delight in this.
For all those nominees that attended our Oscar Special on Saturday go check out our GALLERY from Wednesday 29th February to see your movie poster portraits.
Let’s bring it back to the 90’s this week and pick an epic anthem from a group of British legends. Featured in the college smash Cruel Intentions – we give you The Verve and their Rolling Stones cover (of sorts) Bittersweet Symphony.
Shame the movie wasn’t as good as The Verve’s music video. Ah well. It’s a great song.
