Well…after being left, mouth agape in utter astonishment, at the shear brilliance of Warrior it seemed only fair to bestow this wondrous award upon it’s mighty shoulders.
So here’s to The National’s ‘About Today’. Perfect selection for an incredible movie.
And furthermore…friggin’ Beethoven’s ‘Ode To Joy’ of bloody course…
Ok. Well this week we are going to remind ourselves of the simpler times. Of a time when we were naive and easy to please. A time that was very much soundtracked nearly entirely by pop-punk and represented by a plethora of stoner movies.
Sooooo…lucky for us along came a time dominated nearly entirely by films uniting the two. Yes – daft films, starring simple and stoned youths (and in the case of Jessica Alba – HOT too!) doing simple and stoned things…like accidentally killing their parents and each other.
Idle Hands is the movie. The Offspring is the band. A cover of The Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated” is the song.
This week we pay homage to the talents of Heath Ledger who past away 4 years ago on Sunday.
A tragic waste.
So – this week we are picking a track from one of his standout youthful moments. Taken from 10 Things I Hate About You – a splendid movie by the way – this is one of those special moments when every girl swoons and every man simply can’t get annoyed. Coz it’s just a bit great. (Why Julia Stiles though? WHY?!)
Heath Ledger – really was just too good to be true.
Wahey! We are going for a jumpy pumpy little ditty by The Castaways this week …and when I say “little ditty”, I really mean “little ditty” as it only clocks in at a minute and half. Selfish little gits aren’t they.
Taken from Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, this song really does our juicy’s thumping inside our tip tapping feet, that reside within our dancing shoes.
Aaaaah…remember when we all liked Guy Ritchie. Remember when we all doubted Vinnie Jones’ longevity. Remember when we thought that we’d seen the last of Sting.
Those were the days.
Anywho – Lock Stock is still amazing and this song is still a worthy highlight.
Taken from the highlight in every teen boys favourite toilet chump movie American Pie comes “Mutt” by the band synonymous with toilet chumps everywhere – Blink 182.
This song soundtracks “that” scene. Although, American Pie has lots of “those” scenes, this one is the standout moment for spotty hormonal pubescent teens everywhere.
We begin 2012 with an absolute stonker! Taken from the massive classic (and when I say massive, I mean MAHUSSIVE) movie The Goonies is Cyndi Lauper’s plinky plonky masterpiece “Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough”.
The video is also something rather special. Take a look!
p.s. We agree Cyndi. Goonies are most definitely good enough.
Well, it has to be really doesn’t it! Being that we have our Back To The Future NYE party just around the corner!
(Which by the way we assume you have got your tickets for!)
Oh yes – it’s Earth Angel by The Drifters. Taken from the incomparable Back To The Future. Little needs to be said about this except that it is one of the finest songs, from one of the finest moments, in one of the finest films OF ALL TIME!!!
Due it being Jesus Christ’s birthday special this Saturday, we thought a festive Soundtrack of The Week would be in order. Soooo…we’ve gone for a magnificent song from THE FINEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER.
Christmas in Hollis by Run DMC from the majestical marvel that is DIE HARD!!!!
- “Ain’t you got any Christmas music?”
- “THIS IIIIS CHRISTMAS MUSIC!”
Well it’s approaching christmas – which means the obligatory xmas tv schedule rears it’s ugly unimaginative head once more. However, between the pains of having to watch Home Alone 3 and bloody Elf the odd gem does pop up.
The Great Escape, Gremlins and, yes, It’s a Wonderful Life to name a few.
The magnificent Arthur also falls into that pile of stunning movies that seem to have ingratiated itself into our Christmas psyche. An utter wonder of a movie with a performance from Dudley Moore so career defining it nearly lets us forgive Santa Clause: The Movie. Nearly.
On top of this, Arthurs Theme by Christopher Cross is simply sublime.
So well done all round then.
This is a nice little tribute video that some smart sod made.
